Building Specifications of the Jefferson

Stage: Currently divided by our screen. The part in front of the screen includes the removable thrust over the orchestra pit and is 28.5 feet wide and has a depth of approximately 12 to 15 feet deep.

Proscenium: The opening between the house and the stage house &emdash; the big arch&emdash; is 28.5 feet wide from pocket to pocket. Stage to arch height is approximately 26 feet.

Backstage: Our 30' x 52' backstage is typically leased for $400 per night. It traditionally was the entrance point for theater sets (via its oversided loading dock doors) facing Water Street.

Understage: Besides a boiler room, an electrical/sprinkler room, and the "green room," there are three dressing rooms under the stage which were renovated with new HVAC and lighting in 1993. At the same time, a modern bathroom with shower was installed on that level.

Capacity: Downstairs currently seats about 369. The mezzanine seats 184. A balcony was closed off sometime around the 1970s and awaits a suitable tenant for reopening.

Seats: Downstairs we have 369 seats which are Irwin model #4686 at an angle of 20 degrees. Upstairs we have 184 seats which are Massey Polaris II, #62-88. Both upstairs and downstairs have an array of widths from 19 to 22 inches. All of our seats were installed in January of 1984 when the theater was twinned.

Screens: Downstairs is 12 feet high x 26.5 feet wide masked. (Its full silver size is 12.5 feet x 27 feet.) Upstairs is 12.5 feet high x 23 feet wide masked. (This is why our upstairs theater is the best movie theater in town &emdash; a jumbo screen in a small space with a steep pitch.)

Power: Backstage we have several 110V circuits and one 220V circuit available. Our stage lighting operates on eight 110V circuits located in the downstairs projection booth.

Stage Lights: We have eight Par 64s with 500W bulbs, dimmer packs, and gels. These cans are adjustable from the loges on either side of the stage and operated by a panel at the back of the house.

Projectors: Both upstairs and downstairs we use Century Model H projectors.

Heat: A new steam/hot-water boiler was installed in September, 1998 with 1.5 million BTUs of power for our thirteen radiators and main heating coil in the air handling unit.

Air-conditioning: A 40-ton Carrier air-conditioning driven by a three-phase motor provides ample cooling capacity.

Exits: All fire exits are illuminated on the interior by battery-operated power-failure lights.

Fire-suppression: Only the backstage is sprinkled. The remainder of the building utilizes eleven fire extinguishers inspected annually. The building is grandfathered as a theater under the applicable building code.

Restrooms: The ladies room is in need of renovation to modern standards.
