Jefferson
Theater backstage - for parties, receptions, exhibitions,
seminars The historic
stage floor measures about 45 feet by 30
feet.

Since 2005, the Jefferson
Theater backstage has become one of Charlottesville's most stunning
and most unusual party spaces. The classic, semi-industrial feel
stems from the fact that this was the original stage of the historic
1912 movie/vaudeville theater.
Here, the great performers of American history, including Harry Houdini, the Three Stooges, and fire & brimstone preacher Billy Sunday made their mark on Charlottesville. The space has been lovingly restored with the original wood floor bearing a modern luster but also at least 10,000 dents and dings from countless stage performances. Here, 52 feet above the floor on a grid, stagehands would hoist sets counterbalanced by sandbags. Today, the dual-circuit lighting system takes the place of stage sets. But the sandbags are still working to balance the lights.
The backstage has recently played host to wedding receptions, birthday parties, art exhibitions, corporate seminars, and film events. Because the Jefferson Theater is still thriving as a discount movie house, the backstage gives attendees easy access to the theater to watch a film and then come back for a party or discussion.
The room is well known to the finest Charlottesville caterers who appreciate its modern loading dock, basement prep room, ample electrical supply, and convenient location in the heart of downtown.
